Professional Bio

In 2023 Kevin made his career decision to transition out of the bureaucracy associated with a public school system consisting of approximately 180 schools, 140,000 students, and 20,000 employees to get back to the basics of total school risk management. He now focuses on assisting smaller scale K-12, charter, and independent schools in professional development for staff on total school risk management planning. Kevin believes protecting students, staff, visitors, property, and to reduce overall general liability must focus beyond only active shooter and security concerns.

Kevin holds a master’s degree in safety management and a bachelor’s degree in sport management, both from West Virginia University. His career has included 25 years as Director of Safety & Risk Management for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Schools and he held a similar role for 4 previous years at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is a Certified Safety Professional, has an associate in risk management, is a certified school safety manager, and serves on several safety advisory boards.

Before joining the safety profession full-time, he previously worked in facility management roles for college athletics, minor league baseball, and continues to work part-time for the Charlotte Hornets and the NBA for game day operations.
