In this workshop, we'll focus on enhancing the critical relationship between heads of school and board chairs, recognizing it as a cornerstone of effective school governance. By providing a dedicated and uninterrupted space for these leaders to engage with each other, the workshop aims to nurture a strong and collaborative relationship. Through guided activities and discussions, participants will work toward establishing a meaningful and mutually beneficial connection. Participants will leave with a framework of practical and actionable steps to build and maintain a strong relationship, ultimately positively impacting the overall success and well-being of the school community.

Dr. Valaida Wise
President, Dr. Valaida Wise Consulting

Bio

Dr. Valaida Wise is the president of Dr. Valaida Wise Consulting. The firm supports schools and other organizations around the issues of climate, culture, governance, and leadership. She is a faculty member in the Graduate School of Education at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, where she teaches research design and issues of social justice. A qualitative researcher, Dr. Wise has written articles on educational leadership, early childhood education, and equity in education. She is also the recipient of numerous awards including her most recent honor of the Innovator Award from the American Montessori Society for her work in equity assessment. Dr. Wise has over 25 years of experience serving as the head of school of several independent schools in the Washington, D.C. region. She has also served and continues to serve on many school boards.
