2026 SAIS Board of Trustees
January 1-December 31, 2026
The SAIS Board of Trustees is responsible for the supervision, control, and direction of the association.
The nominations process takes place each spring. For the 2027 class, the nominations deadline is May 22, 2026. You may nominate yourself or someone else for board service. Details about board nominations and service can be found at the bottom of this page.

TRUSTEES
Term of Office
- The trustee term, which begins on January 1 of the year following election, is three years.
- A trustee may, during tenure or at the time of rotating off the board, be elected to a position as an officer.
- Officers are exempt from the regular board rotation.
- For the 2027 class, the term of service is 1/1/2027-12/31/2029.
Board Meetings
- Trustees are expected to participate in four meetings each year:
- In-person: April + September (locations vary)
- Virtual: June + December
Nominations Process
- You may nominate yourself or someone else for board service.
- For the 2027 class, the nominations deadline is May 22, 2026.
- The executive committee reviews the nominees and recommends a slate to the full board.
- Per the bylaws, the board-approved slate will be announced no later than 30 days prior to the annual business meeting
- The election of the 2027 class by heads of SAIS member schools will take place via Zoom at the SAIS Annual Business Meeting at 4:15 PM Eastern on October 21, 2026. Heads of all SAIS member schools will receive notification and access instructions the week prior.
- New trustees begin their terms on January 1 of the following year.
Eligibility
Bylaws Article 4. BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
The governing body of the association is the board. The board is responsible for the supervision, control and direction of the association. The board shall consist of the officers, the immediate past chair, and up to 15 at-large members of the board, referred to as “trustees,” with the intent of representing the diversity of schools within the membership. At all times a majority of the SAIS board shall be heads of member schools. However, board members may also include, but not be limited to, staff of educational associations, members of the educational community at large, member school trustees, and such other individuals who may fulfill the strategic needs of the association from time to time.
