Organization Overview

Soundcheck Prevention Network helps schools understand and address the conditions that drive substance use. Established in 2020, our work is informed by more than forty years of combined professional experience in over 100 school communities across the U.S. and abroad. Our core team brings a unique perspective to this challenge: as professionals in long-term recovery, we understand the nuances of substance use not just as a data point, but through direct personal experience and years of work in the field.

Soundcheck distinguishes itself by collaborating closely with school partners to develop a clear understanding of local strengths, challenges, and risk factors. We do not arrive with a one-size-fits-all curriculum; we bring a specialized process for uncovering the factors that influence student decision-making.

Our Soundboards Assessment is the engine of this methodology. Through structured dialogue with students, parents, faculty, and coaches, we move beyond surface observations to reveal the academic and social pressures, peer dynamics, and family norms that define a school's culture. This process shifts the entire ecosystem:

- From Assumptions to Accuracy: We identify both the protective factors a school can strengthen and the specific risks that require attention.
- From Reaction to Strategy: We provide a foundation for prevention planning that is practical, sustainable, and aligned with each school’s unique priorities.
- From Passive Acceptance to Influence: We create a space for the voices of those most directly affected, ensuring students have a decisive role in shaping their community.

Soundcheck has partnered with 40 schools across 16 states and abroad, including independent, public, international, and charter schools committed to comprehensive prevention. Schools that engage most deeply report improvements in student wellbeing, including stronger sense of belonging, improved mental health indicators, and reductions in substance use.
